Franklin Township Community School Corporation has received a $29,553,117 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Marion County K-12 Public Schools Initiative.
This is one of 34 large-scale implementation grants being awarded through phase 3 of the initiative, which is designed to help strengthen the academic achievement of students in Indianapolis and improve their prospects for success after high school.
With the grant, Franklin Central High School will launch a dedicated Health Sciences Academy housed in a new 38,617-square-foot facility. To support the seamless integration of career learning, this facility will feature modern medical simulation labs and industry-aligned instructional spaces designed for hands-on training. By locating these advanced resources directly on the Franklin Central campus, students will be able to incorporate Health Sciences programming into their existing daily schedules. This on-site model allows students to pursue rigorous Career and Technical Education (CTE) coursework—including Pre-Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Biomedical Sciences, and Exercise Science—and earn professional credentials while remaining fully engaged in the high school experience, including core academics, performing arts, and athletics.
"This grant empowers us to bring first-class healthcare education directly to our students' doorstep," said Dr. Chase Huotari, Superintendent. "By integrating these high-demand pathways into our campus, we are ensuring that Franklin Central students can pursue their career dreams without sacrificing the comprehensive high school experience they value".
